Nedjma Bensaker

Nationality: Algerian
Job: Country manager assistant
Country: Algeria

Key words : A wide range of tasks, involvement in customer service, a Managing Director's schedule is a perpetual marathon.
« Women can aim just as high as men »

Who are you, Nedjma?
After receiving my degree in Economics, specialising in Management, I spent three years working on fixed-term contracts in the pharmaceutical industry in Constantine, my home town. I moved to Alger after getting married, and applied for a job as assistant to the Country Manager at Schneider Electric Algeria. I have now spent a year and a half in that job.

What does your job involve?
It covers a wide range of tasks, from managing the Managing Director's diary to the logistics of employee travel and meetings, not to mention receiving telephone calls and recording the mail, which is the most thankless task as far as I am concerned. I have to record all the mail of Schneider Electric Algeria: date, sender, recipient, subject ! At Schneider Electric Algeria, we also track customer complaints; the General Management does this in collaboration with the Quality Department. It is one way of demonstrating the involvement of the highest levels of the company in customer service, and ensuring that we all do our best to respond to customers' questions.

What are the most important aspects of this job?
I constantly act as the interface between employees and the Managing Director; I listen to all of the requests that are addressed to him. I also spend a lot of my time assisting him at meetings. That is a fairly stressful side of my job, since a Managing Director's schedule is a perpetual marathon. I spend a lot of my time running, for fear of missing an appointment. It sounds like a stressful job.

What are its rewards?
One thing is that, even if I am not present at meetings with customers, I am often present at internal meetings. That teaches me a lot about how the company works. I also like working directly for the Managing Director; I have no other boss in the company.

What would you say to a young woman who was considering working for Schneider Electric?
To a young woman I would say this: at Schneider Electric, women can aim just as high as men. There are many women engineers here, and our Logistics Manager is also a woman. But I would also like to say something to anyone who is considering joining our Group, man or woman: this company provides many opportunities for growth. I have seen a lot of colleagues succeed and progress within Schneider Electric Algeria. As for me, soon I am hoping to take a training course that will enable me to make use of my Economics background in a financial job.
