Philips Research East Asia

In 2003, the total investment of Philips in R&D amounts to 2.7 billion Euros, or 9% of total revenue. Currently we have 19,500 employees in R&D all over the world. Philips has more than 100,000 patent rights based on about 20,000 inventions, 22,000 brands, over 11,000 design rights and about 2,000 domain names.

Philips has research labs in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, India, Germany, England, USA and China, staffed by about 3,000 researchers and scientists. Philips Research East Asia (PREA) was established in 2000 in Shanghai, serving the rapidly growing business in East Asia. PREA is committed to develop into a leading research lab in this region by partnering closely with the academic and R&D community and cooperating with local standard-setting bodies in relevant areas. PREA currently has 60 scientists focusing on the areas of Optical Storage, Digital Television and Wireless Communications.
